How to Use the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE COMAND Navigation System

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE COMAND Navigation System

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE COMAND Navigation System is causing a lot of excitement. It is already available in certain models, such as the C-Class, but is constantly being improved and altered with each new application. As the GLK changes to the GLC, and the M-Class changes to the CLE, we will be seeing a lot more of the COMAND system.

The COMAND Navigation System is actually short for Cockpit Management and Data Navigation System. It is a lot to say but the system actually does everything the name suggests and more. So what does it do? It controls music selection and settings. It controls Dynamic Select driving modes and helps you drive more efficiently. It controls satellite navigation, driving assistance functions, and general vehicle settings. It does all this with three key pieces of hardware; A high-quality display screen, a rotary controller, and a touch-pad.

Navigation System Display

The GLE features an enormous 8-inch display screen located on top of the dashboard in the center. Unlike other Mercedes-Benz applications, the dashboard is partially carved out to make room for the screen. It looks much like a high-quality tablet, and operates like one too. The display features a 960 x 540-pixel screen that will make you forget you aren’t at home.

Rotary Controller

Probably the most useful way to get around different settings menus or picking songs is by use of the rotary knob. It sits on the center console nuzzled underneath the touchpad. The knob rotates 360 degrees and presses in to select options. It also has a volume knob and back button located next to it for speed and convenience.

Touch-pad

The touchpad is the newest addition to the COMAND Navigation System. It can be used to zoom or rotate maps, find addresses, or select music. It can be thought of as an supplement for the rotary knob. This means you can operate everything with either tool, or you can pick and choose which ones you like best for each function.
