2017 Earth Day Events in Scottsdale

Now that April is here, it’s time to start thinking about what you will be doing to celebrate Earth Day. Each year Earth Day takes place on April 22. This holiday first began in 1970 and was founded by Gaylord Nelson who was then a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. It is a holiday where people help demonstrate and spread knowledge of how to have a healthy sustainable environment. Today we’re going to help you find some fun ways to celebrate this important holiday here in the Scottsdale area.

Ways to Celebrate Earth Day in Scottsdale

Earth Day Celebration in Scottsdale

This year the Salt River Prima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Community Development Department and its Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Division are hosting their 13th Annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22. There will even be a household hazardous waste collection from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The celebration will take place in the courtyard of the Two Waters Tribal Government Complex from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be hands-on learning activities, games, arts & crafts, a variety of animal visitors and more. There will also be a food available. The event is free, but visitors must register for the event online.

Scottsdale Litter Pickup

Scottdale is having a citywide litter pickup on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day. Volunteers interested in participating can register online or call 480-312-3111 to be assigned a roadway to clean on a one-time basis. Trash bags, safety bests and cotton gloves will be provided to registered Adopt-a-Road groups.
