Shortly after we got our first glimpse of the GLE Coupe, Mercedes-Benz began teasing the GLC Coupe. When it was first presented by Mercedes-Benz, it was labeled as a near-production-standard prototype and everyone assumed it would remain as such. Even after the GLC SUV release was officially announced, it seemed the GLC Coupe was just a design experiment. With the overwhelming release of the GLE, Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will be putting the GLC Coupe into production next year.
So what’s the big deal? The design of the GLC Coupe is arguably inferior to the GLC SUV and we already have the GLE Coupe, so why do we need a GLC Coupe? The reason this is exciting is because the GLC Coupe will feature a new powertrain that is not available in the SUV.

This engine, without further adieu, is a V6 Biturbo, 3.0-liter V6. It will produce 367 horsepower at 5,500 RPM and 384 lb-ft of torque between 1,400 and 4000 RPM. The GLC SUV will only be available with one engine, which is a 2.0-liter with 241 horsepower. Do you see the difference now?
Aside from the engine, the GLC Coupe will feature pretty much all the same equipment as the SUV. The highly-anticipated 9G-TRONIC 9-speed transmission will certainly be a highlight and it will come standard with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive.
Mercedes-Benz has not announced exactly when the GLC Coupe will begin rolling off the line, but at least we did get a confirmation from a Mercedes-Benz representative at the Frankfurt Auto Show this year. We will keep you posted about when to expect the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe release, which we speculate will be next fall. Until then, come to Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale and try on a brand new GLE-Class.
