The release of the SLC couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. The reason for this is because the Mercedes-Benz SLK was dragged into the nomenclature change on what just happens to be the 20th anniversary of its world debut in 1996. As it turns out, the SLK had been using a lot of the same parts and technologies as the C-Class already, specifically from the powertrain, which prompted the one-letter name change. Today, the 2017 SLC still borrows a lot of the same things from the 2017 C-Class. These similarities make the release more exciting in our opinion because we already know what the C-Class is capable of.

Let’s just get it over with, shall we? You are looking at a choice of either 241 or 362 horsepower. These are low numbers for Mercedes-Benz, but so are the price tags. If you need more, you jump up to the SL-Class or the S-Class. The SLC is also a much lighter car, meaning it doesn’t need as much power to remind you that you just ate lunch. These horsepower numbers are paired with 273 and 384 lb-ft of torque, respectively.
The 2017 SLC will come in two trim variants… at first. We can probably expect a Mercedes-AMG SLC45 to come out of the woodwork sometime next year but for now, we have the SLC300 and the Mercedes-AMG SLC43. The SLC300 comes with a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine. The SLC43 turns up the heat with a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine handcrafted by AMG.
Here is one thing Mercedes-Benz really has a hold on. Both SLC trims will come standard with a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission. And we thought we were spoiled with the 7-speed in the SLK.
When you put it all together to the back wheels and you get to 60 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds in the SLC300 or 4.6 seconds in the SLC43. Top speed is limited to 130 and 155 MPH, respectively.
