What Is The Difference Between AIRMATIC (®), AMG RIDE CONTROL, and DYNAMIC SELECT?

AIRMATIC (®) Suspension is what Mercedes-Benz calls its air-ride suspension system. For most drivers, DYNAMIC SELECT is more than enough to adjust this accordingly. It even features an INDIVIDUAL mode that allows for some customization. AMG RIDE CONTROL, however, allows you to fine tune your suspension settings separate from transmission or engine settings. Realistically, this is only used on the race track. Neither DYNAMIC SELECT, nor AMG RIDE CONTROL can be present without AIRMATIC (®) suspension, which comes as an option on all Mercedes-Benz vehicles. All AMG (®) vehicles will have all three of these features, standard.

How To Adjust AMG RIDE CONTROL

AIRMATIC (®) Suspension

Air-ride suspension uses compressed air to keep the car in balance at all corners. In the case of Mercedes-Benz AIRMAITC air-ride suspension, it is automatically adjusts hundreds of times every second without the help of DYNAMIC SELECT or AMG RIDE Control. Mercedes-Benz cars can have AIRMATIC (®) suspension without being equipped with AMG RIDE CONTROL or DYNAMIC SELECT.

DYNAMIC SELECT

Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes do adjust AIRMATIC (®) SUSPENSION settings, but they also change other settings throughout the car. This includes throttle response, engine speed, shift points, exhaust flow, and more. DYNAMIC SELECT is a great feature to play with for every-day driving and can exist without AMG RIDE CONTROL, but not without AIRMATIC suspension.

AMG RIDE CONTROL

AMG RIDE CONTROL gives drivers of AMG vehicles the power to switch between Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus suspension damping modes. This controls suspension stiffness only and is best used on the track, but it gives you even more freedom to adjust the way the car handles beyond DYNAMIC SEELCT. Again, it is separate from the DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes and only comes with Mercedes-AMG vehicles.

Which Cars Have What?

AIRMATIC (®) Suspension is becoming the standard, but is still a package option on all entry-level Mercedes-Benz vehicles. DYNAMIC SELECT is also an option that can be equipped if and only if AIRMATIC (®) suspension is present. AMG RIDE CONTROL is even more specialized and only comes with Mercedes-AMG vehicles, which also come with AIRMATIC (®) suspension and DYNAMIC SELECT as a standard. We know it is complicated so hit us with any questions and we’ll work it out together!
