Which driver-assists are offered on the new A-Class Sedan?

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan self-driving?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan, a compact four-door model, will make its way to U.S. dealerships in late 2018. The all-new sedan will offer several INTELLIGENT DRIVE® driver-assistance systems with functions borrowed from the S-Class. Although not fully self-driving, the A-Class is able to operate semi-autonomously in certain situations. Continue reading to learn more.

Driver-Assistance Functions in the A-Class Sedan

For the first time, the A-Class Sedan offers semi-autonomous driving in certain conditions. The sedan is able to monitor surrounding traffic with improved camera and radar systems that allow the A-Class to “see” more than 1,500 feet ahead (or up to 500 meters). The sedan also uses map and navigation data for several assistance functions.

The 2019 A-Class is optionally available with numerous advanced driver-assistance systems inspired by the S-Class. Active Brake Assist, however, is offered as standard equipment on the A-Class. Active Brake Assists helps to mitigate or avoid the consequences of rear-end collisions with vehicles ahead. The system also monitors the road ahead for crossing pedestrians and cyclists and can intervene if necessary.

The available driver-assistance systems are added to the A-Class via the Driver Assistance Package. See the list of available systems below:

  • Active Brake Assist
  • Active Lane Change Assist
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist
  • Active Emergency Stop Assist
  • Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC®
  • PRE-SAFE®* PLUS

*PRESAFE® closes the side windows when the system’s sensors detect side movements that suggest a possible rollover. A small gap is left near the fully closed position. Seat and head restraints adjust only when equipped with memory system.
