Mercedes-Benz vehicles are some of the most luxurious in the world. With high-end luxury comes customization, desire for individuality, and expensive style. To keep these drivers happy, many Mercedes-Benz vehicles are heavily customizable from the factory. From chrome accents on the outside to temperature-controlled cup holders inside, the identical car days of Henry Ford are over. In the 2016 Mercedes-Benz S-Class alone, there are four different tire cap options.
To keep up with all the customization needs on new Mercedes-Benz models, more humans have been brought in to do the jobs that specialized robots simply can’t. Robots are meant for doing the exact same task over and over again until someone turns it off. When each car has different production instructions, robots need to be reprogrammed before each build. This is time consuming, expensive, and ridiculous considering a human has to do the programming in the first place. It is unclear as to how long this will last. As robot technologies improve, the robots may rise up again and steal their jobs back. For now though, it is cool to see Mercedes-Benz doing the right thing for communities!
