When the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup concept was unveiled yesterday in Sweden, we learned a couple things. First of all, we are excited to see that the X-Class will eventually be available in two different models, the Stylish Explorer and the Powerful Adventurer. Unfortunately, we also learned the truck won’t be available in the United States. At least not at first. Here are some of the specifications we will be missing out on next year.
2017 C63 S Specifications
Mercedes-Benz hinted at other engine options, but has stated the flagship variation will be powered by a diesel V6 engine. This could be a big reason why it won’t be available in the states, although Ford and Chevy still offer powerful diesel options, so it’s no excuse.
Mercedes-Benz has been taking some heat for the diesel GLS, which features the very same 3.0L turbodiesel V6 as the X-Class. Although no conclusions have been made yet about whether the engine meets EPA standards, it has delayed production of the GLS350d, meaning it could also affect production of the X-Class.
The standard power output from the Mercedes-Benz 3.0L turbodiesel V6 is 250 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. When paired with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, this high level of torque indicates that the intent of the truck is to pull trailers and climb mountains, meaning they won’t just be made to look good.
With the torque-heavy diesel V6, the X-Class will be able to pull up to 7,500 pounds! This is the most of any Mercedes-Benz SUV or truck, matched only by the GLE SUV. For a payload, you can expect 2,500 pounds.
Will the Mercedes-Benz X-Class be able to penetrate a market foreign to Mercedes-Benz when it is released this time next year? If you have any questions about the X-Class, leave a comment below!
