How To Fix Electrical Problems on MV Agusta Brutale

MV Agusta Brutale Headlight Indicator Stuck On

Despite the companies long history of financial instability, MV Agusta makes some of the best sport bikes in the world. Like Mercedes-Benz vehicles, They are powerful, light, and intelligent beyond belief, but that doesn’t mean they are immune to the kind of silly problems devoted bike riders encounter on a regular basis. Just when you get everything running perfectly and lined up straight, your MV Agusta Brutale bright headlight indicator comes on and stares you in the face even though you don’ t have your bright headlamps on. Is it time for a service appointment? Possibly, but you may be able to fix it yourself.

Dead Battery

At first it’s only slightly annoying. After all, it isn’t too difficult to ignore a little light on your dashboard. You decide to ignore it, but then you notice the light stays on even when the key is out, draining the battery all night long before an important business meeting early in the morning.

No Headlights, Dash Lights, Blinkers

In some cases, the problem has even spread to other electrical areas of the bike, disabling headlights all together or causing a flickering speedometer. This is no longer something you can legally ignore…

The Problem

Nine times out of ten, the issue is the service power unit, or SPU. The SPU is not an ECU as many people think. Actually it’s a small box, costing anywhere from $300 to $500, that uses resistors and capacitors to distribute electricity as needed throughout the bike.

The Solution

Unfortunately, we have never encountered a rider who successfully fixed an SPU. They are difficult to find sometimes for MV Agusta bikes, but replacing it with a new one is your safest bet and it is an easy job for the weekend mechanic. Even if you are still just dealing with a stubborn headlight indicator, why not protect your Italian investment and get it replaced before you get stranded somewhere you don’t want to be?
