How to Inspect Your Car’s Fluid?

Six Ways to Inspect Your Car’s Fluids

Inspecting the fluids in your vehicle is an essential component of maintaining its performance and health. Routinely checking and refilling fluids such as engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid can prevent major issues and increase the longevity of your car. In this blog by Mercedes Benz of Scottsdale, we’ll take a look at how to inspect your car’s fluids.

  • Park your car on a level surface and switch off the engine. Wait for a few minutes before opening the hood to allow the car to cool down.
  • Find the dipstick for the engine oil. Remove it and wipe it clean with a rag. Reinsert the dipstick, pull it out again, and check the oil level, which should be between the minimum and maximum marks. If it’s low, add more oil.
  • Locate the coolant reservoir, which is usually a clear plastic container labeled “hot” and “cold”. If the coolant level is below the “cold” mark, add more coolant or a mixture of coolant and water.
  • To check the transmission fluid level, locate the dipstick, clean it, and reinsert it. Remove it again and examine the level, which should be between the minimum and maximum marks. If it’s low, add more fluid.
  • Find the brake fluid reservoir and inspect the level. If it’s low, add more brake fluid.
  • Check the power steering fluid level by locating the reservoir and examining the level. If it’s low, add more fluid.

Aside from these fluids, it’s also wise to regularly check the levels of windshield washer fluid and battery water (if relevant). By following these simple steps, you can keep your car running smoothly and avoid expensive repairs. You can check out the services we offer and schedule a service with us at Scottsdale, AZ!
