What is Mercedes-Benz DRIVE PILOT?

2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class DRIVE PILOT

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is gathering a lot of attention for its new interior design and giant infotainment screens. Although these features are awesome, there is something else about the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class that we think is bigger news than the design ingenuity inside the E-Class cockpit. The feature in question is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class DRIVE PILOT. It may be somewhat of a redundant name for the new technology from Mercedes-Benz, but what it does is amazing. It is pushing the race for vehicle autonomy forward and is really only a few steps away from being completely autonomous.

If you own a new Mercedes-Benz car or SUV, you are already familiar with DISTRONIC PLUS cruise control, where you car automatically changes speed on the highway to maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. DRIVE PILOT is an updated version of this software that can control the steering wheel to follow the vehicle in front of you. This makes driving on curvy highways a problem of the past, as long as you don’t need to go over 130 miles per hour, that is.

Mercedes-Benz Steering Pilot

The functionality of Mercedes-Benz DRIVE PILOT does not end with some simple follow the leader. The Steering Pilot function that DRIVE PILOT utilizes can also change lanes automatically. When turned on, all you have to do is turn on your blinker. If the lane next to you is unoccupied, your E-Class will carefully make its way into the new lane.

Do you see why we think this is a big deal? The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class DRIVE PILOT function is the next stop to fully-autonomous vehicles, giving us one less thing to worry about. If you would like to learn more about the new E-Class, come to Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale today!
