Back in the days of carburetors, distributors, and regular oil, it was recommended that you change your oil every time you cross the 3,000-mile mark. Over time, this number slowly increased out of the view of the public eye. Dirty carburetors got replaced with fuel injectors, ignition systems dug the grave for the distributor, and scientists developed a way to synthesize oil to make it work better in every possible way. So how do you know when to change the oil in your Mercedes-Benz? The answer, unfortunately is that it depends, but don’t worry there is a simple way to find out.

Don’t worry, it’s not a guessing game. The owner’s manual in every Mercedes-Benz glove box will tell you exactly how many miles to drive before changing the oil. It will also tell you what oil to use and how much. Before computers, mechanics relied on those magic little books!
Modern automobile engines run much cleaner than older models and typically will only require an oil change every 10,000 miles or so when synthetic oil is used. Since all Mercedes-Benz models now recommend synthetic oil, this should apply to everyone with a car built after 2010. With that being said, all cars are actually a little different. Because of this, the oil you use is a little different and consequently will have different durations of life. If you are driving a Mercedes-AMG GT S, you will probably want to change it more often than an owner of a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class would. If you are driving an older Mercedes-Benz and you do not use synthetic oil, then the 5,000-mile mark is probably a safer bet.
