Why isn’t my cruise control working when I drive?

Cruise control is a vital luxury that many car drivers would hate to go without. So, if you’re cruise control suddenly goes out on you, this is provably a fix that you want to get taken care of right away. So, why isn’t your cruise control working, and how do you fix it? Let’s take a closer look.

5 Reasons why your cruise control stops working

If you’re cruise control isn’t working, it may not even be the fault of this technology. As you know, if you step on the brakes, your cruise control stops working. So, if there’s something wrong with your brake light switch or your brake lights, your cruise control may think you’re applying the brakes and turn itself off.

Likewise, the cruise control has a control switch, too. So, if something is worn out or damaged, then it stops working.

Engine or transmission issue: if you drive a newer year model you’re cruise control may turn itself off if you have an engine or transmission issue. So, if you see your engine light come on and all of a sudden your cruise control doesn’t work, then it may not be your cruise control having issues

Spiral Cable: If you have a bad spiral cable in your steering wheel, your cruise control may not turn on, as the control switch for the cruise control can’t communicate with the cruise control itself.

Electrical issues: your vehicle has many connectors and electrical components. If one of these goes on your cruise control, this can cause the cruise control to stop working.
