ATTENTION ASSIST® is an advanced safety feature in Mercedes-Benz vehicles that helps you maintain focus on long or monotonous drives. It monitors your driving behavior for signs of fatigue or inattention and provides timely warnings if it detects potential drowsiness, helping you stay safe behind the wheel. Keep reading to learn how the ATTENTION ASSIST® feature works in Mercedes-Benz from our team at Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, AZ.
ATTENTION ASSIST® continuously analyzes various parameters, such as steering patterns, to assess your alertness. If signs of fatigue or lapses in concentration are detected, it alerts you with a visual and audible message on the driver’s display, prompting you to take a break. For added functionality, ATTENTION ASSIST® includes a microsleep detection sub-function in some models. This feature uses a driver-facing camera to monitor signs of nodding off and issues a specific "Nodding Off: Take a Break!" warning when microsleep indicators are observed. This system operates effectively within a speed range of 37 mph to 124 mph. However, microsleep detection can activate at speeds of 12 mph and above when equipped with the driver camera.
ATTENTION ASSIST® offers two sensitivity settings to suit different driver needs:
Standard: Provides regular sensitivity to detect fatigue.
Sensitive: Alerts you earlier by adapting to a higher sensitivity level.
You can adjust these settings through the multimedia system by navigating to Home>Settings > Assistance > Assistance > ATTENTION ASSIST®. You can also adjust the senstivity by selecting Settings next to ATTENTION ASSIST® and choosing between Standard and Sensitive.
You must remember that the ATTENTION ASSIST® system resets its drowsiness assessment if you turn off the vehicle or unfasten your seatbelt and open the driver’s door. However, if the system detects a fault encounters an issue, the ATTENTION ASSIST® warning light will remain illuminated on the driver’s display permanently.
