2018 smart Electric Drive Coupe United States Release Date
Way back in 1998, when an alternative energy was just a dream, smart brought the smart car to market. It was one of the first of its kind, especially in the United States, where it survived Y2K and helped fuel the fire that would become the great hybrid anxiety of the 2000s. Now, countless years later, smart has grown, but the cars are still small. Now, the entire lineup of smart vehicles can be equipped with gasoline engines or electric motors. The newest addition to this list is the 2018 smart electric drive coupe, coming to the United States in less than six months.
Flagship S-Class Goes Electric
smart fortwo coupe, fortwo cabrio Debut
In the United States, the smart electric drive will be available as a smart fortwo coupe or a smart fortwo cabrio. This means the smart fourfour will not be available stateside for at least another year. The fortwo model, however, will begin arriving at United States dealerships in the spring of 2017.
Emission-Free Urban Mobility
The smart fortwo uses a water-cooled AC motor to be 100% emission free. Although it is best used in the city, it can accelerate all the way to 78 miles per, a comfortable highway speed. It has the equivalent of 74 horsepower and 96 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough to get you around town.
Charge Time And Battery Range
With a dead battery, the smart fortwo electric drive charges in 6 hours. This time can be cut in half, however, with the purchase of a 240-volt charging station, which would be installed in your garage. Once full, the smart fortwo coupe can travel 76 city miles or 59 highway miles. If you are commuting to work every day, the smart fortwo is a great opportunity to save money.
