What is a flex fuel car?

Many drivers today are concerned with being conscious of their impact on the environment. This focus can even influence the type of vehicle that drivers choose to purchase. May drivers opt for a hybrid or electric vehicle, but there is also a lesser known third option for people who want to be more green. This third option is flexible fuel vehicles. Today we’re going to take a look at what a flex fuel car is and if Mercedes-Benz carries any such vehicle.

Doesn’t Mercedes-Benz have any flexible fuel vehicles?

Mercedes-Benz has a number of Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFV), but what exactly does that mean? A Flexible Fuel Vehicle gives drivers a choice in fuels whenever you pull up to the pump. They can use gasoline or E85 Ethanol, which is an available fuel that is 15% gasoline and 85% ethyl alcohol aka ethanol. This means 85% of this fuel comes from corn and other grains, which makes it a locally produced, renewable resource that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70%.

Which Mercedes-Benz models have flex fuel?

Mercedes-Benz has a few models that are available with flex fuel. These models are the GLA 250 Coupe, E 300 Sedan and GLE 350 SUV. You might be wondering if E85 affects your vehicle’s performance and we’re happy to report that vehicles operate pretty much the same whether you use gasoline or ethanol, but you should not use ethanol unless you own a flex fuel vehicle.
