The 640i and the CLS400 are very similar cars. Every time you find one advantage between the two, something else comes out of the woodwork to balance the equation. The 640i has an 8-speed transmission as a standard feature, but it is a heavier car and consequently has a slower 0-60 time. The 640i does get one more mile for every gallon on the highway, but this is hardly enough of a reason to influence a purchasing decision.
