There is one major distinction between Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz and that is the type of forced induction used on the engines. The Jaguar XJ is supercharged, blowing air through the front of the engine. The S-Class is equipped with a biturbocharging system. This means it uses two identical turbochargers to suck air through the exhaust. Both techniques are opportune for making extra power, but the power they make is not the same.
The Jaguar does in fact have more horsepower than the Mercedes-Benz, but thanks to the biturbos, the Mercedes-Benz has a lot more torque. This is ideal for accelerating from zero to sixty or making quick passes on the highway, which is what most drivers will use these cars for. For example, the S-Class has less horsepower than the XJ, but it accelerates faster thanks to the better use of materials and space. If you are in the market for a new luxury sedan, we have to insist you at least drive an S-Class before losing your money to a Jaguar. You won't regret it.
