A reinvention of the pure sports car, the Mercedes-AMG® GT started as one and is now a family of six incredibly powerful and luxurious models. Two of the most popular models are the AMG® GT and the AMG® GT R, so the team at Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale created a comparison research page and video to educate our customers and help them decide between the two sports cars. Check out our 2018 Mercedes-AMG® GT vs 2018 Mercedes-AMG® GT R comparison below.
Both the GT and the GT R deliver exhilarating, gripping performance and a luxurious driving experience, but the GT R was engineered purely for performance while the GT was built with everyday practicality and comfort in mind. Every aspect of the GT R is intended to help it deliver the most performance possible--it features extra power, more grip, stronger brakes, and highly advanced performance technology. The GT, on the other hand, is intended to provide maximum driving pleasure with its heart-pounding, top down-performance and upscale cabin filled with luxuries. See the comparison chart and video below.

The comparison chart highlights the main differences between the AMG® GT and AMG® GT R, which mostly relate to performance. The GT is a roadster, while the GT R is a coupe. The GT is also available in two model options--either the AMG® GT Roadster or the AMG® GT C Roadster. The GT R, on the other hand, is only offered in one model which is the AMG® GT R Coupe.
As mentioned earlier, the GT R was built purely for performance, so it delivers maximum horsepower and torque, and also achieves the highest top speed. However, the GT's 550 horsepower is nothing to scoff at, either. Both models are incredibly fast, reaching 60 MPH from a complete standstill in under four seconds.
The team at Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale created a helpful and fun comparison video between the AMG® GT and AMG® GT R to provide a closer look at what it's like to sit inside and drive both models, as well as offer more highlights of the differences between the two models.
