The GLS-Class SUV is the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz SUVs. It has tons of space, lots of luxury, and excellent performance. But we’re not just saying that. Let us prove it to you, trim by trim.
There are four different 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS models available: GLS 450, GLS 580, AMG GLS 63, and Maybach GLS 600. Each has something different to offer.
Each GLS 450 comes equipped with a turbocharged I6 engine. It produces 362 horsepower. A nine-speed automatic and 4MATIC AWD round out the powertrain. Inside the cabin, the GLS 450 comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a Burmester 13-speaker sound system, and a few other infotainment features. Standard safety tech includes the Pre-Safe system, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, parallel and perpendicular park assist, a 360° parking camera system, and crosswind assist.
The GLS 580 does feature some interior upgrades, but the main attraction for this trim is the powertrain change. The GLS 580 adopts a biturbo V8 that produces 483 horsepower, 121 horsepower more than the GLS 450. The aforementioned interior upgrades are leather upholstery, massaging front seats, and five-zone automatic climate control.
The AMG GLS 63 sports an AMG-tuned biturbo V8 that produces 602 horsepower. It also has a limited-slip rear differential, high-performance brakes, an AMG performance exhaust, an adaptive air suspension, and roll stabilization. It also gets a panoramic roof and heated second-row seats. Safety-wise, the AMG GLS 63 adds Pre-Safe Plus, a parking damage detector, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and lane change assist.
The Maybach GLS 600 is a premium vehicle in every sense of the word. Its powered by the same birtubo V8 as the GLS 580. Comfort additions include massaging front and rear seats, heated armrests, and heated and cooling cupholders. Technology additions include front and rear wireless device charging, a 26-speaker Burmester surround sound stereo, and a 7-inch rear-seat MBUX tablet. The only available add-on is a refrigerated console.
